Much of my commuting route involves quiet residential streets instead of major streets. This works out fine for me since there's less bike/car interaction overall, although I generally have no problems on any part of my route. On one particularly quiet section this morning I noticed a car coming out of a back lane; I wasn't sure if he could see me so I slowed to a crawl as I approached (it needs to be said that I have LOTS of lighting on my bike). Sure enough, he didn't notice me until the last moment and slammed on his brakes (he really was going too fast for ice-covered roads) resulting in a slide out across most of the road. While he was reversing I proceeded along my way, during which time he shouted out of his window "Isn't it time to put away the toys?" to which I replied "So, if I was driving a car would it still be my fault that you can't stop properly?" He had no reply. I did throw in "At least I have traction!" and continued on my way. What an utter bonehead.
The rest of my commute was peaceful and enjoyable as usual.
