Started out intending on riding 50 miles, but decided to go see my mother at Boswell Rehab instead. My route was close to the facility, so it wasn't out of my way. I was only there for about a half an hour, she needed to go for a test and I didn't want to be out too late in the morning. I left at 9:30 and it got quite toasty on the ride home. I also had to take Paradise home instead of either Sweetwater or Acoma because both are being resurfaced. Acoma - 43rd avenue to 51st avenue and Sweetwater - 43rd avenue to 35th avenue. If it wasn't for the heat, I feel that I could have done the 50 miles, no problem (and no cramping!).
And in a moment of complacency on my part, I was within a couple of inches of being hit by a car. It was at the intersection of 91st avenue and Greenway. It's a T-intersection, but there is a MUP on the other side of the intersection. Well, if it wasn't for the quick reflexes of the young man driving the car that nearly hit me, I'd have a messed up bike at the very least and possibly be in the hospital right now. He stopped right there, got out to see if I was okay, and shook my hand 3 times, before we parted. He was more shook-up than me, he really thought that he had hit me. His front left wheel was literally just a couple of inches from my front tire. I had let a U-haul truck pass through the intersection, then I proceeded through, not realizing that the truck had blocked the young man's view of me until it was almost too late. I am very lucky! (note to self: always assume that you are invisible while riding on the road)
