I started cycling again in 1987 when my wife decided to get a bike for herself and ride it for exercize and fun. I was riding a borrowed MTB for the first few months, I was hooked (again) from my first pedal stroke. I recieved a nice road bike in August that year as a gift. Rode it until the frame broke 13 years and lots of miles later (I'd guess about 35,000 +/- miles based on old log books.). Had a couple close calls along the way, including a nasty bike/car accident where I was T-Boned by a car at an intersection. The accident destroyed my new racing bike that only had about 1000 miles on it. Also got some GREAT use out of my helmet that day!
Still find riding too much fun to think about doing something else. My wife still rides occasonally.
My total "Lifetime" mileage doesn't include any riding from 1987 until 2004 when I started using Bike Journal.

Tange Prestige heat treated tubes in a cool Gray and Black metalic fade paint scheme. Built it up over '92 '93 '94, with closeout Ultegra components. Hit by a car late in '95 on a Century ride with only about 1500 miles on it. Totaled the bike and almost me too.
