Hello all. Been lurking for almost a month now. Just got back into to biking and honestly though i use to ride it all over the place as a kid I never accomplished any real distance.
I took a pledge to myself to be more active. I'm 36 and i am already breaking down. In November I went for a check up and I had high cholesterol and a blood Sugar levels. I was 197lbs at 5'9". And overall i felt like I was already beyond my years. Something had to change and fast. I got more active and changed my diet watching the carbs and i dropped to 185lbs in March and dropped alot of the levels. it wasn't enough.
That's when i dusted off the old Stinger and went on my first trip. At a whopping pace of 9.5mph of 5 miles I felt i could do it. so the next day i rolled out to work 10 miles round trip. The morning was ok but it took me almost 50 minutes to get home with the wind gusting in my face. Bah I know it was Sad.
But yesterday 4/25/12 @ 179 lbs with my new bike. I completed my first Half Centry ever! Took me 3.47.22 @ 13.6 Avg MPH. The first 16.2 mile leg took me 1.07.37 @ 14.5 Avg MPH.
So I am hoping since I am past the "Habit forming stage" it will be more then a passing fancy. Since my family like me a whole lot better after my evening ride. Guess i could always start to commute soon to add in time to decompress from work.
Well congratulations on your first half century. Consistency is everything. Any day with a ride is better that any other day without one. You have found the fountain of youth, the secret to a healthier happier life, Ride.Log.Repeat.
