I have fenders and it rained this morning.

It rained this morning and and its much cooler and more comfortable.

I got my new jersey from my LBS.

I have new Pearl Izumi gloves to use.

I have a three day weekend.

I have a desk full of treats to eat.

What are you glad about today? Just pick one thing that makes you happy today and tell us about it.

OK, now as odd as this may sound, Raleighdon wimped out on the ride yesterday due to rain. It was, however, very nice to spend a little time with RedsFan and his wife and treat them to a little bit of good old northwest home baked pie. They brought us a lovely little model tandem with our names constructed into it, in copper wire. A real nice addition to our little bike collection. I think we have about a dozen now hanging around the homestead. Haven't quite figured out where this one should land.

Because yesterday I rode on Mount Evans to the place I had my accident... and managed ok emotionally. I didn't continue farther up the mountain because of pain, though. I just needed to face that one place.

I am glad Don and Redsfan, were able to get together and have some PIE, and happy that CircaRigel was able to ride up Mt Evans.

I'm glad today that I was finally able to pass 2,000 miles for the year! I'd been stuck at 1,983 since being bitten by a dog on May 1st.

Last night I pulled the rear wheel from the Trek to trot down to the LBS and see what would fit as a replacement. Examining the wheel carefully in the stark garage light I found that the rim was NOT split, just dented. Fixed and smooth now, and for free!!! Yaaay.

Before I post this, I want to say I am a little reluctant because a friend of mine and arguably the most popular guy on BikeJournal is having some bad luck battling the very cancer that I have beaten.
Nevertheless, IAGT because I made my yearly goal. The background to this is that 7 years ago, on 25 July, I had an esophagogastrectomy (Ivor-Lewis procedure) for esophageal cancer. Without going into more details than you’d want to read, just know that it is not a fun experience. Shortly after, I made a goal to cycle 2000 mile in the first 12 months after the surgery. I had been averaging about 3500 miles per year in the few years before surgery. Well, after I made that first 2000 miles, my wife asked me what my next year’s goal was. I answered, "Another 2000 miles, I guess." Not willing to cut me any slack, she told me that was not very much as I had been recovering during the last year and did that much. "OK", I said "4000 miles!" And that’s what it has been for the next 6 years. I have made the goal every year, with the exception of last year. Due to other commitments and the weather, I missed it a little. Well, I’ve made up for last year and am back on track – 26000 miles since surgery, as of today. I know this isn’t much for some of you biking animals, but it’s a good amount of riding for this old non-athlete. Now, I’m starting on the next year’s riding.
