Aye these be the ship's 2010 METRIC CENTURY CLUB RULES: They're kinda simple: Note that the first four lines of the post are requested to be (M)iles (T)time (TT)Total Time and (E) Elevation. The TT and E are optional mate.
1. Metric century is 100 Kilometers (62.137 miles) or longer.
2. Try to be done as a continuous ride with allowed breaks for food, rest, etc.to keep in the spirit of "doing a metric century." The "Metric Police" were fired years ago, so use your own guideline for the time frame to turn the pedals for 62.137 miles.
3. "One Metric Per Day". Credit for one metric regardless of the length of the ride. Da Reason: Simply some folks such as those who do brevets might decide to ride 180 miles whereas others may not have the opportunity or time for extended rides. Thus for the Metric Club,a 180 mile ride equals "one" metric in the books, but it does give you credit a very long ride and could be NOTEABLE.
24 hour exception (Revised July 16, 2009): If ye ride past 24 hours and do another 62.137 miles in the next 24 hours, plus 1 and apportion the hours, etc. across 'em. And so for those of ye randonneur brave inclined.
4. Post as much as you want about the ride for those of us who enjoy reading where ya where, something about your metric just fer fun. Any other information such as max HR, elevation, etc. is definitely welcome.
4a. Someone asked "How Many". Me thinks ya should do at least 6 metrics during year to be an "active" member. Nope, I don't know where I came up with 6. Just sounded reasonable.
5. Have fun.
6. No Whining
7. Ye counts yer metrics when ye signs onboard. Late signer uppers no back loadin.
8. And last but not least, a thank you to RussTaiTai for starting this motivational thread.

POST EXAMPLE
M: 63.7 T: 4:12:27 TT: 5:02:37 E: 200 feet Avg: 15.14 MPH
Did the Shanghai Into The City metric today. Played "Dodge Em" with the work cart bicycles, bicyclists heading at me in the wrong direction, motor scooters, and the ever present "that bell means ABSOLUTLY NUTTIN to me" pedestrians.
Note: Feel free to add any pictures, insights, fun sightings, etc. Write as much or as little as you'd like. Some of us (me included) enjoy reading bike adventures

2010 will be the 1st year since 06 that I haven't done a metric on New Year's Day!
My goals are modest for next year.

I haven't given a goal number yet, but think an average of two per month (24) should be good.
Metric Century #1 - Annual Hains Point Laps with VeloDCity
Distance: 102.66 Time: 6:03:40 Total Time: 7:46:46 (was 5:59:59 after the outdoor ride) Average speed: 17.22 MPH elevation gain: almost nothing
We ended up with better weather than the NWS had been predicting with the temperatures staying above freezing and the rain ending before midnight on New Years Eve. I rode Arlington streets to Key Bridge and then DC streets to Hains Point to join up with seven members of VeloDCity for this annual DC activity. Did 17 laps of the 3.25 mile circuit, stopping for a lunch break at 44 miles. Then headed home via the 14th Street Bridge and the Mt Veron and W&OD Trails. Then took Quincy to the Custis Trail and home, finishing with 76 miles.
After a quick snack, climbed on the Tunturi and spun while watching Penn State hold on to beat LSU adding another 26.66 miles.

There is only one goal number that matters to me this year: 3.
I am chasing an upgrade in track racing to Category 3. Every ride I do will be related to this until after September.
Yeah, I have a goal set for total miles (5000) but if I miss or exceed, it doesn't matter.
Along those lines, I'll say 9 metrics. Because last year was 8, 2008 was 7 and 2007 was 6. Maybe this year I'll get some early, instead of running most of them in the last quarter of the year

M: 63.7 T: 4:35 TT: 5:20 E: a few hundred feet
Did a nice, easy populaire with the Lone Star group. Got a nice turnout of new faces (including a couple of my invitees,) and pretty weather, no wind. The course went from Arlington to Venus and back, no big hills, but some nice short ones. Add a potluck when we got back, and all in all, it was a good day. (Yes, RD, there was pie. I made sure of that!)
