Rained again yesterday and spent some time on the trainer, but the sun was out today along with a robust north wind. Opted for a harder than normal effort day and hoped to get some quick tailwind added miles in at the start. Headed up the valley for seven miles to Millport that is a long shallow grind. I was able to get through the first third of the course with a fifteen point three average. The middle section starts with a two mile climb although over half of the elevation change comes in the first quarter mile. Tried to be aggressive on the first steep section but still lacking in the red blood cells and was soon on the defensive. Lost a mile an hour off the average on the short steep hill. Recovered fairly well on the continuing grade and tried to push again with some success but continued to bleed off time. Course flattens out a little after the the two mile of climbing but continues uphill until mile thirteen. Dropped to below fourteen over the high point and started going downhill but into the wind. Had the average climbing as I got to the final third of the course that includes a couple miles of fast descent into Watkins. Ended up at least achieving over my fifteen goal and probably could have been well over sixteen except for hitting three stop lights. Still was happy for the day as had made a solid effort except for the short steep section that plagued me.
