 10 mile ITT Second Attempt
Rained throughout the day heavily at times. Wasn't able to, actually willing to, do a morning ride that I usually like to do before doing a time trial later in the day. I wasn't feeling too energetic today but figured I would do the best I could. I think yesterday's fast riding took a little out of the legs. Wind was out of the WNW today instead of true north on my attempt last Thursday. It was still blowing at over ten miles an hour. When the wind comes out of the west it can cause alternating wind directions up the north-south running valley though I anticipated mostly tailwind up and headwind down the valley on the returning section. At least the sun had returned, and the roads were dry. Had another poor start as struggled to clip in. Only lost a few seconds but not the best way to start. Covered the first mile at a good clip and felt fairly strong. Kept good pressure on the pedals until the first of two steps that have short five percent grades. I try to keep the speed over twenty on the steps but failed on the first one. Got the speed back up over mile three until hitting the second step at mile four and slowing up too much again. Just didn't have the leg strength today to power through the steps. Hit a headwind on the final mile before the turnaround and average speed continued to drop. Had a better turn around today and had a twenty point seven after making the turn; Point eight slower than last week. I was able to accelerate quickly though as now had a tailwind for the first mile of downgrade. Kept the speed up above twenty-five for good lengths and was able to average twenty-four on the back section. The last mile known affectionately as the curse was again difficult as hit a heavy headwind that dropped the speed. Still finished better than last week by point three five miles an hour. I think I put in a stronger effort this week and was rewarded with a better time. I still have to get much, much faster if I don't want to embarrass myself in competition in July. Changed the bike set up a little after the ride and hope it will help next week.
