 Good Morning Viet...er......Joburg!!!
For the first time I ventured out to the Cradle of Humankind area where I've seen a bazillion cyclists head to on the week end. I never rode this because I looked at the first part of the ride getting to the Cradle and the traffic and hills were abominable. Also, with my turle speed I didn't want to hold back a club level, so didn't ride with the Club100 that I joined.

This area is NOT bent riding friendly for terrain.

Then one day I decided to see to where the ride went and discovered that after about 5 miles the traffic all but disappeared. I was always afraid because of theft to leave my car isolated but some driving around I found a shopping center. Score!!!

So this morning I decided to do a 30 mile ride over very hilly terrain to see if I had the legs for next weeks 94.7 ride around Joburg with the streets closed to traffic.

Good Morning? I've ridden in Miami on a recumbent for over 10 years passed by scores of cyclists and nary a one said anything. This morning my jaw was getting more tired than my legs from replying "Good Morn'n too." Big club groups, single cyclists, small groups, etc. would pass me and there would be a string of "Good Morning". Tip o' me helmet to the South African cyclists friendly.

I'm sure a lot of 'em were because I was riding my 16" wheel travel bent, but still it made the ride that much more pleasant.

Oh, I also got tired of waving and smiling to cyclists coming in the other direction who would notice the BikeFriday bent, and this big ol grin or wave would follow. And yup riding a bent, I got the proverbials "..that looks comfy" comments and they got my standard reply: "Only my smile muscles hurt."

A super good morning.
