Made the traditional first ride of the year on the mountain bike to Watkins via the Catherine Valley Trail and returned via the Bad Indian Swamp and Bird Trail. Weather started up in the forties earlier in the day with rain. We were supposed to get a break from the rain as the temperature dropped below freezing in the afternoon. delayed riding awaiting the drier weather, but it never materialized so ended up riding in a little sleet late in the day. Only saw a few dog walkers out today and no bikes. Bird Trail had been well maintained over the summer as didn't have any blockages, so rode it without getting off the bike. Didn't really do much and ride turned out to be fairly pleasant despite high wind and sleet. Thought I would get colder but only was out for less than an hour, so it wasn't half bad. Got a ride in though so that's what counts.
