Decided to start trying some steeper climbs headed off up Havana Glen Rd. The average grade is probably around ten percent and is less than a mile long but has a couple sections of eighteen percent. My pace was less than an all out attack on the grade and ended up just barely moving forward. Got the tightness in my chest again but without an elevated heart rate so not sure whether that is signs of a pending heart failure or just nervous stress. Wasn't much fun either way. Crested the hill at just barely over six mile an hour average and was disappointed as hoped it was a better climb considering the mild suffering I had experienced. I had been climbing at over seven miles an hour in the winter on a mountain bike just a couple of seasons ago. Recovered a bit on the way to Odessa before climbing again up Ridge Road. Issue now was a blistering headwind. It made the climbing more difficult but the wind howling in my ears bothered me more as now couldn't hear any approaching traffic. Got to Seymoreville and took the Middle Road off ramp heading downhill instead of over the ridge. Fast downhill was kind of fun but then had to do a few miles of rollers once again into the wind. Turn around average at Horseheads was not very good. Got the reward though in Horseheads as headed down hill through the valley with a wicked tailwind. Can't say it was a pleasant ride but at least it was warmer again with the south wind.
