Temperature has dropped from the nineties and back into the seventies. Headed out for a moderate ride with the temperature hovering around sixty. Plan for the day was to get some miles in at a comfortable pace without focusing so much on time although I really need to do more high aerobic cycling according to my computer nanny. Wind was non-existent at the start but would start blowing from the north as the day progressed. Route for the day was the Ovid Interlaken ride. First half of the ride is straight north for twenty-five miles on SR 414N above Seneca Lake. Most rides this year have been returning on this stretch being mostly downgrade. Today it would be uphill. It has a decent amount of climbing but nothing very long nor steep. First climb starts right out of Watkins and is just over a quarter mile of seven or eight percent grade. Climb continues for another eight miles but only withe an average grade of two percent. Good downhill from Hector to Valois and then its more climbing to Lodi. Kept a steady pace and legs felt good. Ovid is the northern most point before turning onto SR 96A and picking up a good tailwind. Road has some good views of Cayuga Lake with no climbs but rolling grades. Up for a mile than down for a mile and repeat. Good riding with a tailwind. Rather than continue along the road to T-Burg from Interlaken headed onto secondary roads and into the hills. Had a pleasant ride through the wooded farmland and continued to climb steadily. A few more miles of climb and a fast twisting downhill dumped me out on SR 227 east of Reynoldsville. Saw a group of four riders then another pair of riders on this road putting my total riders seen for the day up to nine which is probably the most riders this year outside of an actual cycling event. Continued more rolling hills to Burdett where I hit Skyline Drive. Finally glanced at my average and put some effort in to get the average up to sixteen before the end of the ride. The mile long fifty mile an hour descent down Skyline Drive helped considerably. Seems there isn't much difference between me pushing the pace and riding steadily. Really enjoyed today's ride with lots of lake views good road surfaces and mostly tailwind. Suspect the cooler weather helped a bit too.
