Took yesterday off for a bit of recovery and went to the theme park in Doswell. Got a good deal of walking in and also received a good sunburn. Numbers are finally starting to rise and decided to stay in VA for a couple more days and do some of my favorite rides. Stopped in Charles City for a short ride before continuing to my local base in Williamsburg. Couldn't decide on doing the shorter more open faster course or the mildly longer touring course. Parking lot at the trailhead was full of local cyclists going on a club ride but didn't know whether they rode on the bike path or were headed for the open road like me. I opted for the shorter course and headed north climbing the first few miles with a tailwind. Started out a little be faster than I have been lately hoping the better numbers were an indication of returning fitness. Rode steady while trying to keep the watts up pretty much time trialing the course. Traffic was light and the wind was pretty decent making for comfortable cycling. The fields of corn with watering systems are already shoulder high which seems unnatural for me as when I grew up it was a good crop if it was knee high by the fourth of July. It felt good to be riding in an ocean of green. It was a bit warm, but the course runs in and out of wooded areas where shade is abundant. Didn't pull off any heroics but kept a decent pace. Last ten miles finishes on the rail trail but didn't see many riders out today. Finished above seventeen that really isn't too great but much better than I've been doing and was very satisfied with a fun ride.
