 Rock Stream
Started to recover a bit after more time off the bike. Fairly windy but with a little less heat today. Went out for a short ride with intention of riding a bit more aggressively than I've been riding lately. Decided on repeating the Rock Stream route with its two long shallow climbs. Kept the pace up with the aid of the double-digit tailwind and had high hopes for the climb up SR 14 out of Watkins. Lost a little speed on the lights through Watkins but kept a good pace up the first half of the hill. Kept it easily above ten that was my goal for the day. Kind of lost momentum over the last half and unfortunately dropped into the nines and finally eights over the top. Rallied a bit over the false flats to the turn to Rock Stream and pushed the average up nicely. Was a bit worried about the climb into the wind from Rock Stream to Reading Center but it wasn't too bad really with a good deal of the wind coming out of the west for a crosswind. Got over the top with the average over fifteen so at least seeing some improvement. Downhill was a bit underwhelming today as had one lane closed construction midway down the hill that required a stop and restart. Got into Watkins well over sixteen but didn't gain much after that. Had a dangerous encounter with a truck that I had pulled alongside at a stop sign. He had his left turn signal on and figured I could pull out the same time as I was also making a left turn. As we started out though he decided to turn right instead and almost ran into me. He yelled something at me, but I don't know whether it was an apology or a curse. Had two mediocre climbs today though one might j=have been dismal without the strong tailwind.
