 Fast Dundee
Even though today could have been qualified as a travel day, I decided on doing some climbing instead of an easy default course. Headed to Dundee using the North Wind Dundee course even though it was a light south wind. This version would have me doing the climbing with a tailwind and pushing a headwind back down the lake. Legs felt good on the flat through the swamp and had a good passage through the lights in Watkins. Had a decent first half of the climb up SR 14 and a good ascent on the SR 14A staying out of the saddle on most of the steep section and recovering fast enough after sitting down to be able to push over the top. Ended up over a mile an hour faster than my recent decent times. Originally had planned on only pushing the climb then touring the rest of the ride, but encouraged by the decent climbing pushed on as the grade lessened but the climbing continued. Lately the leg power started degrading soon after Reading Center but was able to maintain the flow and kept things going to the top of the climb. Haven't been able to top my fifteen miles in an hour goal on this course this year, but got it easy today as still had some minutes left to use on the downhill. Average jumps rapidly with thirty plus speeds early in the ride. Couldn't quite get to sixteen before Dundee but was pretty close. Had a good climb and descent over the ridge to Lakemont and started pushing the rolling flats south of Glenora into a light wind. Had visions of an eighteen average as I started the decent into Watkins and rolled into town with a seventeen eight. Goal faded away as I got stuck in traffic and plagued by red lights as the average dropped through town. Pushed the flats hard back through the swamp but was only able to get back to seventeen nine that faded a bit more as I warmed down and returned to the roost. Had a really strong ride surprisingly, and it was probably not the best idea with a metric tomorrow but at least I had today. Could have rode more reserved but there would might have had a bad day tomorrow even taking it easy today as at this stage my riding has no consistency.
