 Blustery Day
Really not that great day for riding but have to take what I can get at this time of year. After a few days of cold and snow flurries a strong south wind blew in some warm weather for a brief time today. It got up into the mid sixties though it didn't feel very warm with the high humidity. The twenty-two mile an hour wind was a bit of a challenge as I went out for a short ride before the oncoming cold front brings in thunderstorms and temperatures back in the twenties. Had time for a quick loop through Johnson Hollow that started with another slog up the valley into the wind. Started out fairly well but faded after a couple of miles and plodded along between twelve and fourteen miles an hour despite putting out some decent watts. Got to the bottom of Johnson Hill at a little over thirteen average and after that the riding greatly improved. Did better on my second attempt up Johnson Hill this year as climbed the steep section at the bottom at a steady pace and had good speed once the grade slackened. Had a decent second third helped by a following crosswind for most of the climbing and a tremendous tailwind on the downgrade sections. Was easily hitting the mid-thirties for a mile or so that was quite fun but not sure it was worth pushing seven miles of headwind. Downhill into Watkins was also faster than normal but was hampered a bit by some gusting crosswinds. Legs were not happy heading back into the wind through the swamp from Watkins and was looking forward to ending the ride as the raindrops were starting to fall. Looks like that will be the end of the sixties for March. May get some mid-forties weather toward the end of the week that might be ridable if its sunny and without a north wind.
