Returned to Freedom Park for a rerun of the last course I rode before my collapse in March that kept me off my bike and off my feet for nearly a month and that had according to my computer nanny cost me eighty percent of my fitness level. It has taken most of the summer and a couple of thousand miles to get back to the fitness level I was at in early March. Still got some effort to put in as my nanny tells me I'm only at seventy percent of where I was at last year in August. Started out descending and and climbing out of the gully on the park trail and another gully on the Cameron Mill Road. These climbs turned out to be the steepest climbs of the day as the roads west of Williamsburg I traveled today were fairly flat or miles long grades of one or two percent. Fairly scenic ride at the start crossing a dam before proceeding into farmland. Seemed to be an area favoring chickens as saw a few scampering about as well as a few lawn ornaments of various sized roosters. Weather was also challenging as although it was warm with bright sunshine the humidity was at ninety-eight percent. I was soon soaked and had some issues with sweating into my eyes as the headband just didn't cut it today. Rode fairly steady and was keeping a seventeen mile an hour pace without too much effort. Rode to Providence Forge before heading back over a long climb before dropping down to the Cap to Cap bike trail. I've ridden the trail form end to end to end a couple of times and many miles on shorter excursions over the years. I entered it today about three miles west of the highway bridge over a large river that is one of the bigger climbs in the area. Didn't care for this section of the trail as the tree roots are again raising and cracking the pavement producing a feeling of riding on the center of railroad tracks. Didn't care for it at all, and it really slowed me down. Did see a few other cyclists on the trail but got off it a couple of miles after the bridge climb. Had a few mile of climb from the trail back to the park and had to put in some effort to get the average back up to seventeen. Turned out to be a fairly nice ride with the exception of the Cap to Cap trail. Spent a good amount of time on the ride constantly dripping although I'm not sure how much was sweat and how much was from the humidity.
