South wind showed up today and temperature climbed into the thirties. Repeated the trail ride to Millport on the mountain bike. Not much happened on the ride as only saw a couple of walkers and that was it. The trail is no longer covered with snow and ice as the snow has been replaced by mud. Section of ice remained and I was actually looking forward to the icy sections as the ground was usually still frozen near the ice and I could make better speed. Mostly though the mud was only a half inch deep as the ground was still frozen below it. I did have a couple sections where the tire sank briefly over the rim that made for hard riding. In sections toward Millport where the valley is narrow and doesn't get much sun the trail was all ice. Some of the ice was still hard but quite a bit was getting soft. Actually caught a tailwind as I returned on the highway that made the ride a little more fun. Cant get up to nearly the speeds as I do on the road bike but it was still enjoyable. Although I didn't see any animals on the cycling outing, I did see that the trout are running upstream as I walked the dog earlier as well as a flock of several hundred robins passing through. Spring is on the way but have more single digit temperatures forecast for the weekend.
