This week was supposed to be in the forties but I didn't ride yesterday as it was cold and raw even though the temperature was in the thirties. Today was better though with a warm south wind and temperatures in the forties. Took out the montain bike for a tour through Texas Hollow. Started out with a climb up Fitpatrick Hill to Odessa then had to do a steep section out of Odessa to get to Texas Hollow. Had overdressed and of course overheated on the climbs. The Hollow was actually in pretty good shape this year and instead of the anticipated inches deep mud found the road hardpacked with no stones and few potholes. Really is a pleasant ride out in the boonies but was disappointed to find that now a couple of miles on the north end has been paved. So instead of being covered with a coating of mud I stayed clean and had a fairly easy ride. Got a thrill from the sound of the knobbies as I got my speed up and the tires sang on the pavement. Got a little cold on the descent down Burdett Hill as I had worked up a sweat being overdressed. Downhill didn't last long enough to catch a chill and warmed back up quickly on the small climb at the start of Rock Cabin Rd. Cut across Bad Indian Swamp and checked out the Bird Trail single track. Unfortunately there are several large willow trees down across the trail and had to do a little off the bike bushwacking to get around them. Ended up tearing a couple of pretty good holes in my tights which left me less than pleased. Still a good day overall on the bike but could feel the cold weather returning toward the end of the ride. Forecast doesn't look good for pleasant riding in the next ten days.
