Warm streak continues with temperatures reported to hit the upper fifties this weekend. Talked Mighty Young Joe into coming over for an early season ride. Decided to work on our spins and burn a little fat so limited our gearing to the small chainring today. Used the sneaking course to get to the highpoint of the county by using four small climbs rather than the direct route straight to the top. Had a good tailwind pushing us out of Watkins on the first climb and out to Rock Stream. First twenty mile section is climbing and kept the cadence and heart rate high as we made the ascent. Climbed steady and things went well though I was sucking a lot of air on the third climb out of Reading Center and had to unzip the jacket to releave a little overheating. We both survived the climbing in good shape for fat guys and decided to not bail out and continue with the thirty mile downhill run. Had a headwind for the first section and got a little chilled on a couple of the fast coasts and in a couple sheltered dales. The miles passed quickly as we chatting about the upcoming year's riding and racing. Fatigue started to set in as we crested Johnson Hollow with near forty miles in the bank. Didn't matter though as we had only downhills and tailwinds left. Pace was a little slow compared with summer riding but was probably the most pleasant fifty miles I've ever done in NY in January.
