Ride Description: The FatTrack Team SnowBike Enduro.
A lot of fun on a lot of fat bikes... 25+ Fat Bikes showed up.
I was a team Captiain (I owned a Snow Bike) But I didn't get to pick my team because as soon as it was my turn to pick, Jason (From Blue Mound, WI) and Mike, (They knew each other) just ran over to me and the mighty Mukluk before I could pick a rider.
Turned out to be pretty good riders and Kool guys that were there just for the fun. (and beer)
I think we were marked as doing 11 laps, (The winners had 20 or more in the 3 hour race, I think) but we may have forgotten to mark one (or 2?) down.

20 mph max speed... (not with me on it!)

A lot of fun on a lot of Fat Bikes... Turnout was very good. There were 26 teams of 3 (or more) riders!
Gomez knows how to throw party, especially if bikes are involved, and they always are. Thanks for making this happen!

I also brought my scale and bike stand, so people could weigh their fat bikes. Rider with the heaviest bike won a bag of Beef Jerky. Gomez won with his sweet red and white "Sconnie" Pugsley. I think it was 41.5 pounds.

As slow as I was, I was concerned about getting in the way of the racers, but all of the other riders were very kind and courteous on the 1.5 mile course. If I was caught from behind I'd pull over, out of the smooth "race line", let them know where I was going, and let them pass. And unless they were out of breath, all said "thank you", as they passed. But, a few times that wasn't possible, and all the riders would announce their intentions as they passed. I only had one "bumping" incident, because it was a little squirrelly in places, once you got out of the groove.
With the "LeMans" style start, where riders had to run to their bike with the front wheel, my plan was to walk leisurely to my bike, and by the time I got my front wheel on, I'd have a nicely packed down trail laid down by the 25 bikes ahead of me. It was a perfect plan. And, I didn't have to worry about getting passed! I even stopped for some people out snowshoeing, and chatted with them a bit.
The course was pretty tough to ride in pre-race practice laps, and I had to get off and walk a couple sections with tight, slow technical off camber turns and slippery climbs, but once the race started, a nice packed down snow groove appeared and made things easier. My main goal for my race laps was to ride clean and not have to get off the bike. I cleaned 3 out of my 4 race laps, and only fell once, when I took an off camber turn too slow and tipped over.

Photo #4... This guy drove all the way from Michigan for the event, with his sweet Wildfire FatBike. I see he has a GoPro camera... I found his video and posted a link below... Great video that gives you an idea what a lap was like.
Photo #5... The only 2 Mukluks. My 17" Medium and a 15" Small. When I ordered my bike, I wasn't sure what size to order because, according to the Salsa Sizing Chart, I'm between sizes. The owner of the Small offered me the chance to ride it, but I declined. I love the fit and feel of my Medium, and although the added stand-over height of the Small was very nice, I was afraid I might like the Small frame better, and I don't need buyers remorse right now.
So, if you're in between sizes like me, and wondering what size to get, you'll enjoy either, but if you have short legs, the Small will work perfectly. And there isn't any toe overlap on the 15" bike, thanks to the stretched out geometry.

Photo #7... "Derby" warm-up. Team captains rode in an ever shrinking circle to determine picking order... If you take your foot or hand off the bike you're out, last one alive gets first pick.
I got 10th pick.
Photo #8... This is Wisconsin, where 17�F is still shorts riding weather for some. This guy doesn't understand the concept behind Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park in Milwaukee.
Photo #9... There was a common bond of fat bikes and beer at the event.

Photo #11... As you finished your lap, you had to dismount and mark your lap on the scoreboard with the stinkiest fat felt marker in existance. Several riders were overcome by the toxic fumes. Then you could either do another lap or switch riders.
