 What a Ride
Today I rode from home to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe to ride with the Swamp ROMP to Furman for lunch. From the Cafe it was Joe, Jeff, Ken and Harriet, Steve, Tom, and me. We set a very slow pace with Steve still recuperating from hip replacement and this being Harriet's first ride in a long time. We met Jeff's mom, Kathy, on the north side of Furman and rode to TR and the Upcountry Provisions Bakery and Bistro for lunch. I had the Traveler - roast beef, bacon, sauerkraut, feta & horseradish aioli served on a kaiser hoagie with kettle chips, a pickle spear and lemonade. We sat and talked for quite some time. We headed back down the trail and dropped off Kathy at Furman. A few miles south of Furman Steve's left pedal fell off. I stopped and tried to thread it back on with a Leatherman, but I couldn't get it on tight. It fell off again about 3/4 a mile later. We were nearly to Sulphur Springs where the Spinners has a cycling tool center and Ken put the pedal back on with a pedal tool and tightened the right pedal. Ken and Steve had a funny arguement about who put the pedals on when they changed from clipless to platforms to accomodate Steve's hip. As we went farther down the trail Jeff was complaining about his tricycle not shifting properly and I noticed that my frame pump was missing. Jeff bought his three wheeled recumbent at TTR and TTR took my frame pump off when I had my bike in for repairs. So once we were finished Jeff and I rode on down the trail and up Hudson Street to TTR. JJ still had my pump and put it back on the bike, then he went outside to check out Jeff's trike. JJ had Jeff leave his trike there but Jeff was within walking distance of home and I took off to ride home via Park Avenue. It was a good ride with some of my regular riding friends and some new riders as well.
