 Village Grinder Ride
Today I rode over to the Cross Fit raining parking lot to meet Carlo and others to ride Carlo's Village Grinder Ride. Mark was there when I got there and others started showing up. We were about to leave when a gal rode up needing help with her bike. Her left crank had come loose on her bike. It takes an 8mm allen wrench to tighten it up and we were searching each other's saddle bags to find who had one. Ken had one and Carlo tigtened her crank back and sent her on her way. Then the group took off and we rode about a mile to a coffe shop in West Greenville. There were other riders there waiting on us. We all went in for coffee and I had a cup of hot chocolate. After we finished 10 of us took off across Greenville. We wandered across Poinsett Highway and North Pleasantburg Drive, then we crossed highway 253 and skirted around the base of Paris Mountain. Finally the hills at the base of Paris Mountain got the better of me staying up with a group like that and I started lagging behind. We crossed US 25 just south of Travelers Rest and headed out through the golf course there. We turned onto McElhaney Road. At that point Kimberly turned off to go to Duke's to eat and Ken and Mark turned off with her. They called for me to go as well, but I had other plans. We wandered from McElhaney over to Roe Ford Road then back toward the trail. Most of the group turned left at the trail to go to Duke's Doggs but I was going down to the Cafe so I turned right. Mary turned with me and we rode together down the trail. I stopped at the railroad car on the south end of Furman and called Cis to meet me at the Cafe. Then Mary and I rode together back to the Cafe as she lives right behind it. We had a nice chat going down the trail and parted ways as I turned into the cafe parking lot. Cis pulled into the lot as I was crossing it, so I put my bike in the car and we went inside for lunch. It was a good ride on roads that I have ridden, but I really struggled to keep the pace that Carlo and the group was riding.
