Another Quarter with Lou and Erica
After work I drove back to the downtown post office and headed up Washington to the Swamp Rabbit for a ride up north and back. I was 2 miles up when my phone rang and it was Lou who is a much better rider than I am. He had ridden from the Cleveland Street Y to the post office and saw my truck so he knew I was out somewhere. I told him how to get to the trail from there and headed back to meet him. We headed north and were on the trail detour north of Furman when the phone rang again and Erica was at the railroad car south of Furman. So we headed back and picked her up and took off for the north end again. With Lou along there was a lot of banter - he is a real card and we kidded each other and joked about work and carried on about this and that. It was a lot of fun. WE made the north end of the trail but just south of there some riders on the road yelled greetings to Lou. Two of them are on his riding team. I told him that since they saw him with Erica and me that he was off the team. Lou needed to be back at his truck by 5:30 and I knew that if he stayed with us that he'd be late. So we encouraged him to go on after we were back south of Furman again. Jackie had a 6 o'clock appointment and I didn't want him to be in dutch at home. When he kicked it in gear he really left us in the dust. Erica and I rode back to Sulphur Springs Road then back to Furman where she was parked. I headed south again and passed a guy off the side of the path and stopped to make sure that everything was fine. That man is from my church and once he started talking there was no stopping. I finally headed back toward the truck but was still 5 miles away and the sun had set. I turned my lights on and made it back before it was really dark, but it was close to dark when I got home. It was a very fun ride and I had a good time.
