Ride Description: Parked at Hononegah Forest Preserve. Perfect conditions for traction, hard pack snow and quite a bit of ice. Feet got cold at 6 miles. Coldest temperature I've ridden in. |

To break my record for miles in January, I needed to ride 12 miles. Saturday I was stuck inside doing housework, and next Saturday we have plans. So unless I got in some lunch rides at work, this was my last shot at breaking my record.
Yesterday was very cold, so being inside wasn't too bad. It was supposed to be warmer on Sunday. It wasn't. So, I put on the long-johns and a layer, two pair of socks and went over to The Hononegah Forest Preserve.
The path was perfect for Nokian traction. Lots of hard pack snow and ice, with some bare pavement as well.
I should have put toe warmers in my shoes, but I forgot. So, to warm up my feet, I rode into the Forest Preserve and rode the hills. That helped quite a bit. And the roads had even more ice than the path. Sweet.
Except for the cold toes, it was a very enjoyable ride. I saw one guy walking his 3 dogs near the Bird Grove Shelter. I said "howdy!" and he just stood silent and looked at me like I spoke to him in an ancient Martian dialect. I thought, maybe he didn't hear me, so I said hello again. Nothing. Then he started yelling at his dogs. Weird.
After returning to my car, I noticed my thermometer read 11°. My previous low temperature ride was 12°, so I beat my new low temperature ride to get the miles I needed to reach my personal best mileage for the month of January.
