All right, Mr. De Mille, I'm ready for my close up
As I was making my way to work this morning, things were going along pretty well considering the snow piled along side the road, and the ice problems that existed during yesterday morning’s commute (I drove yesterday). As I sat at the light heading south on Brown Rd, getting ready to cross St Charles Rock Rd, there were a couple cars in the left turn lane and at least 5-6 cars in the left thru lane, and only me in the right thru-lane.

The light turned green and we all took off. After crossing the Rock Rd, the two lanes merge into one, and there is a fairly wide shoulder, but now there is only a couple feet of shoulder exposed. So, I take my line just to the right of the line to allow the cars that came through the intersection with me to pass – and three of them do.

The fourth car seems to be dillydallying around and I notice that about twenty feet ahead the shoulder is more covered with snow, so I start to prepare to take the lane after car #4 passes me – but he doesn’t seem to be wanting to pass… So I end up moving into the lane as the shoulder disappears under the snow, and the car decides he wants to pass me now, and on top of that, there is a car coming the other way now, too.

They guy passes me anyway, and I holler at him, asking why he decided to pass me now when its less safe than it was 20-30 yards back. Then, looking through his rear window I notice he was holding out is phone and taking a picture of me (I guess) as he passed me.

I had to ponder for awhile why would he want to take a picture of me? Let alone for the fact that while he was dillydallying, he was holding up two or 3 other cars – that then had to wait behind me for a half of block before I turned off of Brown Rd – as he was prepping his phone to take the picture he was risking my safety, then as he finally passed me he was risking my safety & his safety, as well as the safety of the oncoming car, too. But why would he want a picture of me? Is he going to email to his friends about some crazy guy out there in the cold riding his bike? Is he going to use it for some propaganda purpose, affirming or knocking cyclist being on the road? Why?

All I know is I sure wish I had my camera mounted to my handle bars so I could take his picture, especially with the flash on so he’d know I took his picture.
