The sun wasn't out much today but southern winds were supposed to raise the temperature into the fifties. I went out a little before peak temperature with hopes of getting the into the wind section done before the wind got too gusty. Headed up Fitzpatrick Hill at a good rate but the Curse of the Christmas Cookies kicked in and I slowed way down when the grade went above ten percent. Crested the steep section and tried to pick the pace up to make up some time but ran out of luck as the wind started blowing big time. I am pretty sure gusts were in the twenty plus range but fortunately the wind was swirling all over, so it felt like a cross wind. I noticed that the ground level wind was blowing the opposite direction of flag level when two garbage cans were blown across a lawn into the road in front of me. Fought the wind and rode hard but didn't get the number I was looking for at the halfway point. Crosswind remained until I passed over the high point in Pine Valley where I finally picked up a tailwind. Got a little speed work in and crested the Honda Roller at twenty five and successfully broke the limit at the Millport limit sign. Still the late speed wasn't enough and was disappointed with the finishing time. At least the cold wasn't a factor today which is unusual for late January.
