Temperature climbed back up to seventy and the wind has died down a little making for a fair day for a ride despite the light rain. Rode a big triangle today across the Florida prairie. First twenty miles was into the wind. Tried to focus on a steady cadence and a minimum speed and did fairly well to the turn where I thought it would be easy to keep the pace in a crosswind. Didn't turn out that way as my speed kept dropping and was unable to keep the cadence up. Rain had picked up from an occasional few drops to a steady stream. Really wanted to burn some fat and therefore minimize eating on the ride but wimped out and had a bite to eat. The refueling helped with the speed as it started to pick up a couple of miles after feeding. Second leg of the triangle was twelve miles long and thought the last section would be the easiest of the day with a following crosswind. Rain really picked up and got pretty soaked. Thought the last twenty miles would never end but held the pace and rolled back into Okeechobee. Had the only really enjoyable part of the ride working through town on the back streets. Long, wet, boring ride overall but will need many more long miles before my weight drops enough that I can start worrying about speed.
