 Committed to commuting by bike
The forecast for Fri called for some snow in the area through the morning hours - the commute into work was fine w/temps in the upper 20's. Then there was some pretty white stuff fallen late morning. What I didn't see in the forecast was the precip in the late afternoon and people reporting slick spots on the sidewalks exiting out of the building... A co-worker asked if I had spikes in my tires - no, I don't have studded tires.

When I left work at about 5:15 there was some light flurries coming down (and I felt a few sleet pellets along the way, too), the pavement was wet, but I never encountered any slick/icey spots. What I did encounter was a stiff wind out of the W which was espicially bothersome on the 1/2 mile+ stretch of road (Natural Bridge) that is slight uphill along side the new runway at STL International - I was heading the same directions as the planes taking off (i.e. a headwind). As I was approached an overpass making my way up Natural Bridge, an airplane rumbled down the nearby runway and took off into the clouds. before I reached the otherside of the overpass two more jets completed their take-offs - that's how slow I was trudging into the wind, and I didn't get stopped at the traffic lights on either end of the overpass.

But I did make it to my destination (bowling alley for Fri night league) without incident - it was a good night's ride.
