It was a little cooler today than yesterday but the sun was warm and balanced out the wind chill from the gusting west wind. Took the mountain bike out and rode the traditional New Years day ride up Dug road and down the New road past Millbilly Haven. Been awhile since I've done any serious climbing and did a couple of good ones today. Didn't get the heart rate up very high but put a good strain on the back. First climb eventually got over and started the run down the new road. In past years this abandoned section of road was either covered in ice or buried in snow and usually have to walk good sections of it after getting tired of crashing. This year it was a little muddy but no hints of winter were present. Felt good after the descent and opted to go up Millport Hill road that was closed for a good part of last summer but must have been reopened while I was away. Road surface didn't appear much better but it looked like they did quite a bit of work on drainage ditches along the road. Headed back down Lower Middle Road and the down Fitzpatrick Hill. Finished off with a loop around Bad Indian Swamp. Rock Cabin Road is in a state of disrepair but I guess that is to be expected being a seasonal road. Didn't have much speedwork today but all the climbing has left my legs very stiff. Gonig to miss the warm weather if winter ever shows up.
