I try to ride at the peak temperature for the day but schedule would not permit it today and so headed out well before the forty degree peak, It was still a couple degrees above freezing and there was some weak sunshine to accompany the south wind. Returned to Reading Center to check on yesterday's big rig event over the side of the overpass. Ride to Watkins was really quite pleasant and the low intensity climb went smoothly. Turns out the tractor-trailer rolled over the guard rails and into the gully as the rails were intact though a little bent. Made it half way up the three quarter mile long steep section before the legs weakened and reached the half way point of the ride in toasty warm and in good shape. The nice south wind that helped me with the climb turned most unfriendly as I turned back into it. Downhill was cold and kept good speed but went into old man mode once I hit the flats. I could barely keep the speed above fifteen and core temperature started dropping when jack frost started nipping a bit. There should be at least one more day of marginal weather before the north wind returns the county to normal.
