Waited most of the day for the rain to pass thru as it was supposed to clear up in the early afternoon. It started to break up late in the day, but it was too late for much solar heating and temperature remained in the forties. Wanted to ride some hills on the road bike but opted instead for the mountain bike. Did do some climbing as headed up Dug Rd and down the New Road to Millport. It is the traditional New Year's Day ride and felt odd doing the ride without ice and snow. Climb went as well as it could on the ATB and just spun happily ever upward. Downhill was a blast and was the first time in awhile I didn't fall over. Lack of ice is probably more likely the cause rather than improved descending skills. Noticed a good sized bright rainbow as I continued down into the valley. Looked great but also probably meant that it was raining below me. Forecast had also promised south winds and soon found out it was only off by one-hundred and eighty degrees. Ended up doing the stretch of Valley trail in a heavy rain and into a headwind. Actually was still a fun ride although I was a little worried about maintaining my body heat in the low temperatures. Rain stopped as I pulled into Montour so did a loop through Bad Indian Swamp to dry things out. Saw just one other rider today on the trail -heading up to Millport in the rain.
