Working from home for the second consecutive day.
The plan was to ride to/from work today, but that changed last night as I was eating my chicken quesadilla and ending up cracking the temporary crown that was put in my mouth around 9:30 yesterday morning. So, the change of plan was to work from home again today, calling the dentist office around 8 when they open to see when they would take me in to replace the crown. The dentist office said to come in at 1 PM – no problem.

As I then was plugging away with things on my to-do list for work, it was just after 9 AM when the power went out. Well, my laptop (work computer) was still working, but I no longer had network or internet access, and other than the glow of the laptop it was pretty dark in my basement office. I did some searching on my phone and some digging around trying to find the phone number for the electric company’s hotline, but kept coming up empty. It doesn’t help that I don’t get paper bills from them so unless I try & dig through boxes with past years archives I’m not sure how else to get the number. I thought about calling Jacque, but knew she would be in a weekly staff meeting. I finally remembered that we had a sticker on the side of the phone in the kitchen that was provided by the electric company – and that phone has long since been relinquished to the office in the basement, so I disconnected the phone and took it upstairs so I could see the numbers in the sunlight coming through the back door.

Called the number and the recording told me that 39 other customers were part of the outage and the estimate was to have power restored by 12 Noon. Ugh – 2 and half hours. So, should I just drive into work so I can work, then after a couple hours go to my dentist appointment and then work the afternoon from home? Or drive to church and get online & follow the same prescribed routine? Or take the rest of the day off? If I did that, what would I do with myself? Can’t watch TV! Well, there are places that have free internet, one of which is McDonald’s and there is one a few blocks from my house. Now do I drive there, or ride my bike?

I ended up driving there, incase the wifi wasn’t available. I got setup at a table in the corner, looking out the window so I could see the traffic flying by on I-270. After working for a couple hours I came back home just before noon to a house that was still dark. The power was not restored until about 20 after. I piddled around for another 20 minutes before heading out of the house to walk to the dentist office.

The crown was replaced and I got back home in about an hour to finish out my work day. Then it was time to get ready for softball. Tonight was the last night of fall league, and it is a single elimination tournament. We are in fourth place out of 5 teams, so we play the #5 team, and the winner of our game plays the #1 seed. Well, we couldn’t mustard many hits, and only scored 3 runs, losing the opening game 13-3. Softball is over until next spring.
