I took off early this morning to ride over to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe for an early breakfast. A little less than 2 miles out is the bottom of a steep hill where I turn off East North Street onto Laurens Road. My rear brakes locked up at the bottom of the hill. I pulled off after the intersection and worked them loose, but they were still not opening and closing properly. I rode home and cleaned them with some WD40 and started off again. I rode to the SRC and had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with a pumpkin doughnut and a latte. I ate upstairs and had a funny conversation with the baker about a podcast that he was listening to while he worked. I also bought a second pumpkin doughnut for Cis. When I was leaving Officer Mike was in the parking lot talking to a pretty girl (one of his favorite occupations) and I told him about Steve. He told me that he had talked to Steve at Williams Cafe. Steve was out there with his walker. We were discussing Steve and what happened and he told the girl that Steve is about 55. He was surprised when I told him that Steve is 70. Mike told me that Steve must have lied about it being his 70th birthday last spring. I also talked with Ord inside the cafe. The ride home was a normal ride except that I rode home on Park Avenue since they finally repaved and lined it. That is the first time that I had been on the bike in three weeks and my legs really showed it.
