I have intended to ride the Donaldson Country White Route for a long time, so I drove out to Donaldson and started following the "white" (most of them look Tar Heel Blue to me) arrows. It runs along with the green trail for a couple of miles but they split after they pass by a Michelin building. Later it runs south along a section of the green route that is running north. Toward the end of the ride it runs north along part of the green route that runs south. So parts of the ride are familiar although things do look different traveling the opposite direction. It was fairly windy at Donaldson but I figured to struggle along Perimeter Road and be fine out on the country ride. As I was driving to Donaldson an unmarked C-130 was doing touch-and-go's and making a lot of noise in the area. It passed directly over me on Augusta Road and was coming off the runway again when I parked at Perimeter Road. It passed over me again as I passed the south end of the runway and I saw it several times as I was riding out south of Donaldson. The ride was very enjoyable and I knew that I had the wind behind or and also across me. But about 8 miles out I turned onto Reedy Fork Road and straight into the wind. The ride into the wind was really tough but I finished it. I stopped at Reedy Fork Church to finish off my water bottle and when I restarted from there Reedy Fork was not so open and it protected me from the heavy head wind. I hit the wind hard again when I came by the Michelin building but it wasn't for very long. Overall it was a very enjoyable ride.
