The phone rang about 5 minutes before 7 this morning. The first thing that went through my mind was one of Jacque's co-workers calling to say they are sick and not making it into work. Or it was Jacque's father having some medical issue. Or with the all the campaigning going on these days, surely they wouldn't be calling at this time of day.
Jacque was up and about, so she answered the phone and one of the first things she said was, "It is a really early morning for you." So, my thought was either my step-father, John Bowman, or my brother, Chris, both of whom live in California. Turns out it was John and he went on to explain to Jacque that his daughter, Barbara, was involved in an auto accident last night.
She was driving south on Texas Highway 110, heading home from church around 8 PM. Troopers said she swerved to avoid a slower moving vehicle, lost control of her vehicle when she over corrected, causing the car to roll over several times and strike a light pole. Texas Dept of Public Saftey said she was pronounced dead at the scene.
This put us in a somber mood for a good part of the day.
Jacque went with me to visit Dr Rothman, a follow-up for the eye surgery I had last summer. Afterwards, she dropped me & my bike off at my work so I could ride home at the end of the day.
Once again, as I got out to my bike to ride home the rear tire was flat - the third time in three days. But I know why - a patch I put on couple weeks ago loses its seal in the warm sun. Well, today I have a new tube with me that I put on, then I couldn't find my pressure gauge. So I filled up the tire as best as I could with my frame pump (usually around 55-60 lbs PSI) and rolled over to QT and pump air in the tire for about 10 seconds - knowing from the times before that wouldn't over inflate it, but would be sufficient to get me home.
I finally left work at 6:30 so most of my ride home was in the dark - making good use of the new headlight I bought last month, and now it has a full charge. It worked pretty good; noticably better than the light I previously used.
