 Sugar Hill
Another pleasant day. Clouds today but air still has warmth in it rather than the chill that was in it last week. Survived yesterday's long ride and body felt none of the weakness that has plagued me for the last couple of weeks. Hopefully I have recovered enough to get back to enjoying my miles rather than just putting them in. Made my fourth attempt at the Rock Stream Beaver Dams course. Had a south wind up the climb out of Watkins and it went rather well. Didn't get fiesty though as still had several more miles of climbing to go.Spun nice on the rest of the climbs and had a decent ride. Got to the top of Sugar Hill with an average of fifteen. That would be a great time for me in April but a little anemic compared to July speeds. Winds really weren't a factor as the west wind was negated by the hills. Finally got a little agressive at the top and decided to try to get the average up to eighteen by the finish. It would require upping the average a tenth of a mile for each mile traveled. So enjoyed racing against time and was ahead of the game until the slight grade at the top of Johnsone Hollow. Had to keep the speeds above twenty one for the final thirty miles and held it for twenty of it before losing the edge. Picked up a little on the downhill section of Johnson Hollow and even upped the average to seventeen four passing through Millport. Unfortunately that was the highpoint of the ride as I bonked with just five miles to go. Had to slow down and eat and drink to keep moving but did fairly well for running on empty. Fortuntely the last few were downgrade with a tailwind. Still had a good day on the bike and body still felt in good shape --just low on fuel.
