I finally got back on the bike in after three weeks of high stress, long hours and poor nutrition. The original plan was to pull a night shift and get an occasional easy ride in. Unfortunately I was rescheduled for dayshift and with thirteen hour days seven days a week and an hour commute each day, riding the bike was out of the question. I finished up the first job in West Palm Beach and went for a briefing on the next project in Indiantown, FL today. I had a couple of hours of sunlight left after the meeting and so headed up to Okeechobee to find a place to stay and get a little riding in. Parked at the lakeside park and rode two laps of the Lost Trail section between Buckhead Ridge and Taylor Creek. I had hoped that the three weeks off the bike would have allowed my cycling muscles to recover a bit and to psychologically recharge but I don’t think that was what happened. It was actually a very hot day with a stiff north wind and riding wasn’t really very pleasant. My legs were quite stiff and really had a hard time getting comfortable on the bike and felt wrung out. Didn’t seem to get much boost for the first for riding in the Sunshine State and just sort of cranked some easy miles off. The ride seemed more like work than pleasure and was tapped out after twenty flat miles.
