Ride Description: W/Sue... My 1st IMBA EPIC Ride! After hiking to 3 beautiful waterfalls we rode Doug's Route. From Cascade Lake Parking Lot, we rode up Corn Mill Shoals Trail (slippery stream crossing there) Laurel Ridge Trail, Mine Mountain (Cool IMBA stuff), Fawn Lake, Conservation Road, Down Airstrip Trail (A super fun, fast flowing IMBA benchcut section) to Bridal Veil Falls. Up the slickrock and went BEHIND the waterfall! Way Cool! After coming down from the falls we lost the trail and rode 'til we found a trail on the map. Some of the "Private" land stuff was really interesting! Old lodges on a lake, the huge old AGFA parking lots and an airstrip on top of the mountain! We also rode Lake Julia Road, Reasonover Creek Trail (A very fun IMBA style trail with a creek crossing). We took Pine Tree Trail and Longside Trail back to the lot.
There are a couple big drops and some very technical root/rock sections here and some LONG climbs! Most of the technical log/rock stunts had options to go around.
For an IMBA Epic, it was not marked that well and had quite a few eroded fall line trails.
We didn't get a chance to ride Cedar Rock, Big Rock & Burnt Mountain Trails, the Moab of the east. But it was a great ride anyway! |
