Decided on doing some touring to the east since the wind is still blowing mightily from the south. Looked up the city of Clarksville on the internet and the only attractions in the city advertised are a hanging tree and a 5 cent Coke ad on the side of a building. Stayed on the main highway for most of the day and it proved to be an improvement over the normal roads I've been frequenting. Most of the road has an eight foot shoulder and smooth surface. Clarksville turned out to be something of a letdown as I found the service at a restruant I stopped at for lunch to be quite rude. Cruised around town looking for the hanging tree and only found some of the towns layabouts whom I believe were heckling me. Not sure whether it was my cycling clothing that set them off or targets are rare out in the isolated prarie towns. I didn't have an interest in stopping and engaging the thugs in spirited debate so I pedalled on. Probably will resist requesting the city be nuked from space as I did have a short but pleasant interface with an elderly man at the restruant and am sure there are more than a few good hearted people left in the dying town. Ride back to Paris was uneventful and not a bad ride as I quickly overcame my disappointment of not seeing the Clarksville hanging tree.
