Had a short night as only had to work a nine hour shift. Decided to use the extra time to do a road ride rather than cranking miles off on the trail. Headed north into a nasty headwind with intention to ride west on 70 to an Indian reservation, cut across it, then pick up 78 and return to Okeechobee. Looked to be a three or four hour ride. Got eight miles into the ride and hit some road debris and cut my rear tire in half. Went back and tried to find what I hit but couldn't find it. Really was a bad situation as I only have a couple of hundred miles on the tire and damage was too severe to even consider repair. Turned around and rode back to the start by standing out of the saddle to keep most of my weight on the front wheel. Kept good speed despite the flat though turns were a little hairy. Got back to the start and put on a new tire and rode a couple more miles before heading back to work.
