As in back to square one. Another three weeks of sloth off the bike due to long shifts and in unfriendly weather. Last couple of weeks has been cold rain with daily highs barely making forty. Weather finally broke today and got out of my sloth bed and hit the pavement anew. There still was a chill in the air, but I went to far with the clothing and overdressed a bit. Legs felt strong over the first couple of miles but support systems are lacking at present. Hit my first dog sprint around mile nine. I heard the beast running through the brush but was unable to catch sight of him early. When it did finally come out in the road in high pursuit, I had a good gap on him. Seeing the canine rapidly closing that gap, I got out of the saddle and accelerated hard in the small chain ring. I only topped out around twenty-six on the slight downgrade but it was enough to keep the beast at bay. He dropped off after a quarter mile and left me to pedal on alone. I had one more little dog abandon his adventure with a small boy in his front yard to give a barking chase, but his legs were to short to be much of a threat. The brief sprint did me in though and spent the second half of the ride feeling a little nauseated and regretting all the garbage I've eaten the last two weeks. My sour stomach and I finished the short ride as the sun went down. Not a very pleasant ride but hopefully I have broken the ice and can get some serious miles in here in Texas.
