I loaded my bike in the back of the truck this morning, so Jacque & I could drive over to the civic center to cast our ballots for this mid-term election. There wasn't much of a line - about 8 or so people getting their ballots or completing their ballot. Jacque chose to do it the old fashion way since the four electronic booths were occupied. I figured they would open up fairly quickly so I chose the electronic, then waited a few minutes - a couple people were just being thurougn about the judges, etc. I got to a machine, worked my way through the ballot and then upon reviewing it I realized I selected the wrong person on the first ballot option - Senate seat between Carnahan & Blunt. It wasn't a big deal to get back to it and correct it, then I was done and Jacque finished up her ballot about the same time. Her manual ballot was filling in the circles on a scan card - not punching out the tabs, so no more hanging chads!!
I then unloaded my bike from the truck and rode to work, and Jacque drove onto her work. To get from the civic center, I just headed east on Dunn Rd (up the hill) and then a quick dart south on Graham/Hanley under I-270 to turn right onto Pershall Rd. There I could just reverse a portion of one of my options for riding home - I rode south on Hazelwood through an industrial area and was surpirsed that there were no trucks or any other traffic on this road. As I approaced Frost I changed from my original plan of turning right to go out to Eva to take me to McDonnel Blvd - again, retracing a typical ride home - instead I went left to head over to Hanley Rd and turn south where a couple blocks later I would join my normal route-to-work. For those not familiar w/the area, just coming south on Hanley from I-270 to this point is not a good cycling idea. It is a 5-lane road, but there is no shoulder for that stretch and a couple rolling hills would slow me (and any traffic behind me) - not something I'd care to do during rush hour. Taking this little 'detour' was not anything really out of the way, either.
I made it to work a little later than normal, but no big deal. After work, Jacque came and picked me (and my bike) up and we drove out to John & Lee's house for our small group Bible study. Another wonderful evening of fellowship.
Of course the good news: no more campaign commercials!
