Had really enjoyed the Little Miami Trail last week when I passed through so I had planned on making a stop here again as I traveled south. I arrived at the trailhead and had to convince myself to ride as it was a cold forty degrees with a light rain with heavier rain forecast. Layered up and headed out with the intention of passing the Fort Ancient trailhead which was the furthest point I'd made last week Ride was neither as pleasant as last week nor as bad as it could have been given the cold wet conditions. Turned around after thirty six miles which was four miles past last week's turnaround. Wanted too explore further but it was raining harder and my clothes had soaked through and I was no longer able to either wick away or evaporate the moisture. Rode wet for nearly an hour before the rain let up enough that that my pedaling efforts generated enough heat to allow me to ride comfortably again. Stopped and checked out the huge abandoned factory that had impressed me last week. It turns out it is the Peters Cartride Factory that had produced a good deal of the munitions used by the Union in the Civil War. Legend has it it was a target for Morgan's Raiders in 1863 but survived damage as the raiders had taken a wrong turn. Looks haunted but I did notice that there were lights on in several sections. Also noticed as I read one of the trail signs that I was only a mile or so from King's Island Amusement Park. Looked around for roller coaster or tower sign but couldn't spot any. Saw quite a few riders on the trail despite the poor weather. Felt pretty tough as I finished a seventy plus mile ride in adverse conditions but then encountered an elderly gentlemen at the trailhead getting ready for a ride. I helped him snap a face guard on his helmet as he prepared to head out into the cold rain to get his daily cycling fix.
