Very similar conditions as yesterday and the day before with a light east wind in the morning and viscious albiet warm wind in the afternoon. Opted for another ride to Captiva but did a little exploring of some of the side roads on the island today. Headed out to Dixie beach and liked the ride better than the side trip I took a couple days ago through the wildlife refuge. Ends up in a dead end road that eventually turns to hardpacked sand. It was firm enough to ride without fear of taking a spill. Checked out some of the beach houses on this more isolated part of the island. Doubled back and got on the bike trail along the main road and was passed by a fast line of riders on road. Tried to keep up with them riding parallel on the trail but could only maintain a twenty-two miles an hour output for two or three miles and was drifting back doing that. Turns out in addition to not having any climbing left I've lost last summers speed as well. Went back to cruising along at my normal sixteen mph after that brief effort and never saw the line again. Spent some time on the beach at Captiva then rode back to the lighthouse on the other end of the island before a high fat lunch at a Dairy Queen. Wind was pretty decent back across the bridge but it changed soon after. It went from mild to heavy wind suddenly without any transition. Stuggled back the last ten miles in a headwind but it really wasn't unpleasant as I had all day and was in no hurry.
