 Back in the Saddle again
Why has it been 12 days since my last bike ride? Weather and timing. I've worked only 5 of the last 10 week days (took 12/18 & 19 off to go my daughter from college, then took 12/24 off since my wife was off the full day, then the 25th & 26th were both company holidays) and the days I did work had some weather issues. One Monday it was 8 degrees (WC -5) when I got up in the morning - I could have toughed it out and biked it, but didn't - it was in the low 20's on the way home. Then there's been the rain - actually on 12/23 the weather in the morning was OK to ride in, but the forecast for the afternoon/evening was forbidding. Rain (heavy rain at times) moved into the area starting late morning and last into the evening and as the temperature dropped some places were slick & slushy. It was just a glaze at most, but I even slipped a couple times walking out to my truck. It would have made for an interesting ride home, especially going down Walton Rd to cross Page - kind of glad I didn't ride.

So I finally got out and rode today - I'm not sure when the last time I went 12 or more days without riding. I would guess it was March '07 - one week in FL/Disney, and had a cold the next week and I know I didn't commute to work that week.

Of interest on today's ride was as I was coming around the bend on Pershall Rd, I noticed a couple big birds changing place atop of a telephone pole - it looked like one just landed and the other was flying off (or the airborne one tried to land and was denied by the perched one). Anyway, they sure looked like bald eagles - they had a white head. Then less than a quarter mile up the road another bird of prey (looked my like a golden eagle or a hawk) launched into flight from the ground between the road & I-270 - he/she was swooping pretty low over the traffic lanes. After reaching the top of the hill by the pedestrian bridge to turn-around, I went all the way back to near Jean - there were to two birds perched on separate post over the freeway. After I turned around, again, to return home, they eyeballed me as I rode by on the side of the road nearest them.
