Felt slothfully slow on the ride into work this morning - averaged 10.7 mph. I was trying to evaluate why it seemed so slow during my ride, and I considered 3 factors. First, it has been 4 days straight now, in sub-freezing temps. I would think I'm in better shape than that, but there's only been one or 2 weeks in the last 3 months that I've ridden consecutive days. Secondly, there may be something mechanically with the bike, i.e. brakes dragging, colder grease, etc., but it was colder earlier in the week and didn't seem to be effected as much. Lastly, the wind is out of the SSE today - earlier this week it was WNW or NW. It wasn't a gale force wind, but just enough, and along with a little fatigue in the body, just made it seem like I had to work that much harder.
The wind will allow today's temp to get into the 50's, and here's hoping it doesn't change directions before this evening so it can help push me home!
With tonight's ride home, I complete my 149th commute by bicycle this year. This surpasses my personal best of 148 completed in 2011. I have 7 more working days this year - we'll see how high this new record goes.
