Paris Brest Paris, the grand "Le Papa" of brevets is held only once every four years: The Olympics of long distace cycling events.
I attempted PBP as it's known in 2003. Those trials, tribulations and trivalities are chronicled here: Thought target=_blank>www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?o=RrzKj&doc_id=287&v=0
Thought I might try it again in 2007. My daughter had this idea to start a family. Her planning resulted in a grandchild to be born around the same time as PBP. You can guess which took priority. There IS something more important than cycling: Family. No doubt.
Living overseas in China where there are no brevets I said to my self: "Self, China needs brevets and I launched "Randonneurs of China" somewhat successfully in that over two years there were brevets and there were riders. One problem: Never could get a Chinese rider to commit. When I was leaving an ultra rider happened to be heading to China and I came across a post of hers. Guess who is now running Randonneurs of China and has a bunch of Chinese riders who will give it a go for PBP if she can build a full qualifying series. Pretty neat. And oh yeah, I ended up with one heckuva beautifully designed jersey by BikeBum of Bike Journal.
I'm gettig the itch, the urge, the inkling, the desire to give it another go.
So much that I've set a goal of a RUSA R-12 medal: Ride at least 200km in 12 straight months.
Times for Nombre L'un monsieur y mademoislle.
Lighthouse Point Florida to Hobe Sound and back. 200kms. Oh gosh. Cold front coming in for the week end. Might have to start in the low 60's with only a high of the mid 70's during the ride. I can suffer.
The ride will be an out and back. Here's what she looks like. You can click on the VIEW PATH IN FULL link and open the map in another window to drill down and see the route. Ho hum...along the Florida Coast. So much suffering.
