Haven't ridden outside for quite some time but have been hitting the weights and doing two race-paced rides each week on the trainer. Also have been doing preventative and corrective maintenance on my bikes. Yesterday's snow had melted, and the temperature was into the mid-forties so decided to do a test ride on my attempted repair of my failed NSW hub. Also, the computer nanny has been nagging me about my lack of low aerobic milage so thought I kill two birds by taking an easy paced ride up the valley to Millport. The repair appeared to have been successful, but the easy ride turned out to be unpleasant and ended up riding a bit harder than planned. As long as the sun was out and the wind wasn't blowing, it was a pretty nice outing. Unfortunately, the clouds frequently blocked out the sun, and the wind was robust and seldom relented. Only stayed out an hour but was dressed for a warm forty-five degrees and suffered in the cold forty-five degrees. Kept a high cadence on the way out and generated some heat climbing. The main road had only a small about of snow and salt on the shoulders, but some snow along the one short, shaded climb I did but no ice. Suffered mildly on the downgrade and the return leg. Was glad when the was over. Doubtful I'll be riding the road bike outside again this year as the temperature is heading back down to single digits over the weekend. Might be some riding after Christmas on the mountain bike as long range forecast has a couple of forty degrees days. Days start getting longer next week and already have started registering for metrics next season.
