 2009... The Year In Review.
Since I joined BikeJournal in 2006, my yearly statistics have have all over the place. And 2009 was no exception.
This year I broke 4 personal best Monthly Mileage Marks, January, February, November and December. In fact, my November miles were my highest monthly total of the year! But, I also set new personal low Monthly Mileage Marks for the months of April, May and July. Hmmmm, maybe I should move to Canada.

Other personal best categories include;
66 Singletrack rides.
99 Off-Road rides.
15 Ice Bike rides for 238.04 miles, for an avg. distance of 15.86 miles. And an avg. speed of 8.81 mph. I'm faster with one gear on ice, than I am in the dirt!
I also set new Individual Bike records on my Super V-1 with 25 rides for 280.96 miles, and a new Longest Ride for that bike with a 25.53 mile ride.

This year, I started building new singletrack in the wooded section of the 16 acres out in the back yard. I also joined the volunteer trail building crew at Kettle Moraine 5 or 6 times. On several of those days, I brought my bike and planned to ride after building trail, but was too tired to get the bike out of the car. I also joined the CAMBA crew for a couple trail work days, in northern Wisconsin.

On the "New Stuff" front, I got a new bike for my birthday. A 2008 Lemond Poprad cyclocross bike in October. I got a new pair of Gaerne Eskimo cold weather riding shoes, and I made my first mountain bike video. (See August 30th Blog for details)
I also did my first long camping trip, when we slept in a tent for two weeks while visiting several National Parks out west. We mostly hiked, but we also did a little kayaking, cycling and whitewater rafting in Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada. We also stopped to visit Mount Rushmore.
I also added a 3rd IMBA Epic to my mountain biking portfolio, when we rode an uninspiring section of the Maah Daah Hey horse trail on the 4th of July. I also tried Snowboarding for the first time on New Year's Day.

I only did 1 club ride (and was dropped early), 1 organized ride (Roun'da Manure), and 1 race this year (Chequamegon Short & Fat).

I sent in the Risse Astro-5 Damper shock for a rebuild in late December. I bought it in March of 2008. This is the first rebuild, it received: new oil, O-Ring, seal change and shaft replacement, for a total of $75. From now on, I think I'll run my old Fox Vanilla Spring shock for Ice Biking, and send in the Risse for a rebuild each Winter.

Considering the amount of time I spent building trails instead of riding them, my continuing struggle with the side effects of the Blood Pressure Drugs, and my lack of Six13 road bike miles (394.68), I'm pretty happy with 2009 as a year in cycling.
